Does recognition require internet?
No. The wake phrase is recognized entirely on the device. Android uses the app's embedded offline model; iOS requires a device that supports Apple's on-device English recognition.
Will it work when my phone is muted?
On Android, Find Mode temporarily uses and raises the alarm stream, then restores it. On iPhone and iPad, playback can bypass the silent switch, but Apple does not let apps raise system volume; leave device volume high enough to hear the response.
Does it listen when the phone is locked?
Android uses a microphone foreground service and partial wake lock. iOS uses a user-enabled background audio session and attempts to recover after calls and audio interruptions. Platform policies, battery management, and other audio apps can interrupt either platform; force-quitting the iOS app always stops Find Mode until the app is launched again.
Can I turn Find Mode off?
Yes. Tap the green “Find Mode active” control in the app. It becomes gray and stops microphone listening. That choice is remembered when the app closes, so Find Mode stays inactive on the next launch until you tap it again.
How do custom activation phrases work?
Free Find Mode uses “Hey Cat Phone.” Premium lets you build an ordered 2–4 word phrase by tapping supported word tags: hey, cat, phone, kitty, find, me, wake, up, hello, sleepy, where, are, you, and every animal name. Unsupported or misspelled words cannot be entered.
Which Premium companions and sounds are included?
Premium includes three cats plus Golden Puppy, Cozy Fox, Sleepy Owl, Panda Cub, Lop Rabbit, Dreamy Cow, Chestnut Horse, Golden Hen, and Pink Piglet. The nine non-cat animals each include a distinct finder call, calm response, and startled sound. Cats retain Original Voice, Tiny Kitty, and Deep Tom styles—30 sound experiences in total.
Can I change the sleeping animation?
Yes. Cats support Calm Breathing, Dreamy Sway, or Cozy Pulse. Each additional animal also adds a smooth profile-matched idle movement while the orange halo remains static. In customization, tap the portrait to preview its finder sound, or use Restore defaults to return to the gray cat, Original Voice, Calm Breathing, Balanced sensitivity, and “Hey Cat Phone.”
Is Premium a subscription or separate app?
Neither. Premium is a one-time in-app purchase inside the same Cat in Phone app. It unlocks personalization; the complete core phone finder stays free.
Can I restore Premium?
Yes. Use Restore purchases in the app while signed in to the Google Play or App Store account that originally bought Premium.
